Alan Shearer declares our new play area open!
Members of our Alan Shearer Activity Centre were delighted when Alan Shearer himself took time out of his busy schedule to officially open their play area – which is bigger and better than ever.
Alan cut a ceremonial ribbon to declare the play area open at a celebration event at the Centre and welcomed some of our members, who couldn’t wait to try out the new equipment.
Thanks to funding from the Alan Shearer Foundation and an extremely generous donation from the Newcastle United Supporters Trust (NUST), our specialist play area boasts a wealth of adapted play equipment and offers an interactive educational experience to enable our members to enjoy the great outdoors without limitation.
“It’s always a pleasure to come to the Centre and see first-hand how the work of my Foundation supports this amazing place,” said Alan. “As soon as I walk through the gates, I feel immense pride in what we have achieved. A big thank you goes to NUST for helping to ensure the part was just as we wanted it to be.”
Charlotte Robson from the NUST added, “We were delighted to help. Our members voted overwhelmingly in favour of this wonderful project and it’s amazing to see it come to life.”
Nic Gilbert, Chief Executive of St Cuthbert’s Care was also at the event to see first-hand what the new play area means to our members.
“Our park offers a safe space for all abilities to enjoy outdoor play and to come together to enjoy nature in our one acre of gardens and wooded grounds. Everyone had a fantastic day of celebration and we can’t thank Alan, his Foundation and NUST enough for their support.”
